Joy is not in things, it is in us
— Richard Wagner

Bendigo is well resourced with Counsellors, Psychologists and Life Coaches - sometimes it’s hard to determine who will best meet your needs. Finding a connection with the right one is important in your journey of change.  My skills are best suited to the following areas, but I’m not limited to them. Feel free to call and have a conversation with me, before committing to an appointment.

If you aren’t able to come in, we can arrange a meeting through video conference or telephone, from the comfort of your home or workplace.

Life Coaching

“Coaching” is a process of change, built on a professional relationship between a client and a professional coach who has highly developed skills around ‘listening’. These skills act as a tool which allows the coach to quickly raise the client’s awareness in regard to unconscious beliefs, patterns of thinking, behaviour and self talk that are not serving them in their life. Coaching sits in it’s own area of specialty, separate from that of counselling, psychology, consulting or other modalities of therapy - all of which have a valuable space. It’s particularly useful in regard to career, goal setting, and raising awareness above the thinking processes, and attaining self actualization.

Depression

The “pit” that is depression is hard to come out from alone. Examining your experience of it and gaining insight into what you can change and what you must simply accept, are key elements in moving through. Even though you may feel it, you are not ‘broken’; like sadness, anger, joy, anxiety and happiness, depression is a part of our human experience; but it is important to talk about it, and find support - please - reach out!

Anxiety

Everyone’s experience of anxiety is a little different, but it’s common to experience increased nervousness, worry, repetitious thoughts and panic; a desire to control your environment. It’s hard to focus and remain calm and at its worst, it impacts your ability to go about your life in a healthy way. When we peel back the layers of anxiety, we always find fear - an inherent sense of being ‘unsafe’. With information, awareness and simple strategies, you have the capacity to move beyond anxiety - to learn what it has taught you, identify the skills you have developed because you’ve experienced it, and then set it aside, grateful for it’s role in your life, no longer fearful but rather with a willingness to let it go, and choose to rely on the skills it’s taught you. Freedom to be your truest self awaits you!

Traumatic Life Events

Too often these days we hear of devastating events that occur to people – the sudden passing of someone close due to violent crime, accidents at work or on the road, bush fires and natural disasters that cause homelessness, permanent injury or death.  How do we deal with the horror of those events when they happen to us or our loved ones?  How do we find closure in those times?  How do we deal with change when we feel we have no control?  The right Counsellor can help navigate the maze.

Grief and Loss

Quite often we limit grief and loss only to the passing of someone close….but we can, and do, grieve all kinds of losses in our life.  The loss of a job, breakdown in relationships, adult children leaving the nest, separation or divorce, loss of good health or function – sometimes there is no conscious catalyst for our grief – moving into our pain is the healthiest thing to do, but it’s important to have the right support as we do so.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Many employers fund this program - it’s designed to provide free, confidential support to their staff in times of need.  The issue does not need to be work related, but it can be.  So if you’re struggling with your mental health, and you’re unsure if your employer makes this available to you, ask the question of your HR department or Manager.

Carer Support

Many people in our community are carers these days – perhaps of someone with a disability, an elderly parent, or maybe you’re a foster carer or a stay-at-home parent without a big support network.  The role of carer can be physically and emotionally draining and it’s vital you receive the emotional support you need so you can be fully available to those you care for, without burning yourself out.

Spiritual Guidance

In a world where religious membership and activity is in decline and yet the search for ‘spirituality’ is on the increase, it makes sense to find someone who can guide you on that journey in a non-threatening, non-judgmental setting, where you are free to question, consider and explore your truths.  I have studied Theology (the study of God and religions) for much of my adult life - I believe I can provide that space for you.

Pre Marital Counselling

The decision to commit to marrying a person is generally a decision that brings a whole lot of joy…..but it’s really important to ensure that, regardless of your age, first or subsequent marriage that you are entering into this long-term relationship with your eyes wide open. Seeking counsel before you tie the knot can be extremely helpful in ensuring you have engaged in all the necessary conversations around the ‘deal-breaker’ topics.  It can save you a whole lot of heartache!
